The main characters in one of my original yaoi ideas (which I haven't done much with yet, but which was kicking around for a while) was a sci-fi thing where the main couple consisted of an unusually short, very smart young aristocrat with some medical issues and a conspicuously taller, not entirely human super soldier. I've also been aware of the Vorkosigan books for quite some time, although I've only read the first one.
It took me almost a year to consciously notice the Miles-and-Taura parallels.
