Why should alternate Europe have all the fun?
Something similar to steampunk (as in, retro-high-tech and Swashbuckling Adventure), but based off of Chinese technology and adventure fiction (wuxia novels?) could be very interesting. Given that a lot of the most famous Chinese inventions appeared pretty early and didn't happen as part of an Industrial Revolution in the modern European sense, it'd be more clockpunk than steampunk, but that's fun too.

1. Given that in the setting, very little is remembered of Earth, what's to say that there's any distinct identity tied to a particular continent of a mostly-forgotten planet?

2. So, had you been doing the casting for Firefly, you'd have refused to hire Nathan Fillion on the basis that he "wasn't Asian enough"?

1. I thought that half the universe was Asian in Firefly. If I was wrong in the assumption, feel free to correct me. However, I could like to point out there have been other instances in Whendon's writing where the cast is all white in California, without even a single background non-white in town.
2. I don't want to get into "I could do it better" arguments. I didn't write the show.
