Have decided that my NaNo won't be "gritty social realism about coal miners" after all. Of course, in my case, "gritty social realism" would probably translate to something like: "The epic saga of a ruggedly handsome, charismatic union organizer who is secretly dying of some horrible lung disease or another and is secretly in love with his best friend."

* I haven't written much that could be classified as remotely smutty, and none of that was from a male POV, I don't have a great record of keeping up with online RP commitments, and it's not even my favorite opera, but for some reason, some part of my mind thinks that playing Don Giovanni in Amat Omnes would be a dandy idea. (Probably a better idea than bringing Scarpia in, even if Scarpia has sexier music.)

I make a lot of character portraits with online dollmakers. Mostly I do my own OCs or my friends' RP characters, but sometimes I do things like this.

Inspired by some fanart I saw at [info]capslock_mgs a little after Sweet Snake and co. made their appearance. Here's Not-Really-That-Sweet Mantis demonstrating her telekinetic powers. )

I'm wondering whether I should actually write and post my ridiculous Harry Potter Mary Sue idea, just as a chance to practice writing something besides research papers that's more than a few paragraphs without any of the internal pressure that doing something for an idea I'm actually emotionally attached to would involve.
It might also be nice for the people at pottersues to get to pick apart something which has been proofread and isn't a "My Immortal" clone.

On the negative side:
*common sense
*I haven't read the books in ages, and never read the last two.
*It's hard enough sorting through the dross at ff.net without running into the adventures of Athenais Desiderata Leucippe ("Desi") Molyneux, her beautiful but aggravating part-Veela (and probably illegitimate Malfoy descendant) mother (Aspasia Melisande Molyneaux), and their neurotic-even-by-house-elf-standards substance abusing domestic, Tweaky (who has a tendency to retire to one of the cupboards with a bottle of vanilla extract when the world is too much with her - well, in canon they can get drunk on butterbeer, so why not?).
*It seems vaguely like a betrayal of some (probably nonexistent) social contract to create something where the failures of craftsmanship are due to lack of care, not limitations of talent.
